Yesterday my friend Barb S. and I attended our friend Janice’s funeral in Strathmore, Alberta. Janice wrote her own eulogy that was read by her pastor. It was an outline of her gratitude for a good life. Up until 2011 she had excellent health, but then was diagnosed with bowel cancer that eventually spread and became terminal. She lived ten months longer than the prognosis. During that time we would meet in Cochrane for Chinese buffet lunch and a visit. When she no longer had the energy to drive her husband Chris brought her to my place for our final visit. We said our goodbyes and she thanked me for taking her to exciting places in the mountains. That was in the 1970s. So, another hole is in my life, but I am grateful for Janice and her friendship.
