It has been such beautiful, sunny, warm weather that everyone and his uncle could not stay inside, including me yesterday afternoon. Since I had been seeing a lot of cars at Galatea trailhead it was time I checked out Galatea Creek Trail as the trail crew have been working on repairing the trail since last year’s flood. The first part of the trail to the first creek crossing has been repaired for some time in order that people could access Terrace Trail to Kananaskis Village. My hike yesterday revealed that a bit of new trail at the junction with Terrace Trail had been cut and after that it was the old trail to, at least, the third bridge over the creek. The bridges were new with some salvaged boards from previous bridges. I didn’t go past the third bridge as my legs were wobbly, not having eaten enough lunch, and the third bridge had a tricky bit (for wobbly legs at least) at the far end. This is where a little side creek comes in via a wee canyon. Photo included herein. On my return hike I sat on the memorial bench by the Kananaskis River and enjoyed being outside on such a glorious day.
While hiking I chatted with two groups of people and discovered that there are some washouts further along the trail with some tricky, rocky sections. One can get all the way to Lillian Lake if they are sure footed. Obviously more work needs to be done and I’m sure Jeff and crew are working hard.
