My Big Concern

Assisted suicide, dying with dignity – these phrases have become a huge concern to me. In a day of hospice care and access to all kinds of pain relieving drugs I fail to understand why people want to rush into eternity. Maybe it is because they don’t believe in a life after death, but that doesn’t make it so. God says there is life after death.

John 3:16-18 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

So the Bible is telling us how to have eternal life or eternal death.

Acts 17:26-28a says: “From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being.”

The Bible also says in Jeremiah 10:23 “I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own, it is not for man to direct his steps.”

When man (man=male & female) decides to take his own life or requests someone else to take it for him he/she is thumbing his/her nose at God. This assisted suicide/dying with dignity view of death scares me. My question is: Do you really want to propel yourself to hell? It will definitely be more painful than that time in a hospital bed. God’s timing gives you the space to think eternal things through and make your peace with Him.
